Since 1998, Emerald Music School has been nurturing aspiring musicians, providing opportunities to take part in community choirs and music making.

Children can start learning at Emerald from school year 2 (age 6) and work their way through the groups until adulthood. Strong friendships are formed in a family atmosphere which is the foundation on which the school operates. Through their musical journey, students gain confidence in musicianship, creativity, and performance whilst refining their social skills.

The school provide regular performance opportunities with termly concerts and solo opportunities at the beautiful St Mildred’s Church in Addiscombe.  For selected students, there are occasional further performance opportunities. Some of the exciting events Emerald students have been involved with include:

  • BBC Ten Pieces Prom at the Royal Albert Hall

  • Recording session and Amazon video shoot with Beeabadoobee

  • Dulwich College Florian Bosch concert

  • Recording session Close to Home Aitch

  • World premiére of Per Ardua ad Astra by Roderick Williams at Barbican concert hall

  • Kew Gardens for Boots Alliance

  • Royal Albert Hall BITC Gala

  • Category Finals of BBC Choir of the Year at Millennium Centre, Cardiff

  • Opera choruses – Tosca, La Bohéme, Carmen, The Cunning Little Vixen

  • Foundling Voices at the Foundling Museum

The choirs have a long history of acheivements gained at local and national music festivals.

There have been many talented students over the years and a large number have continued their musical paths both as amateurs and professionals. Many still support the choir through attending concerts or by sending their own children to the school.

“We have been bringing our children to choir since they were tiny. We’ve seen them literally grow as people year after year, singing and performing the most wonderful mix of music. There are always moments of genuine magic in the concerts and what a gift that is. Thank you for so many wonderful memories.”
